What do I do with my household batteries?

Operations & Facilities

Green As We Grow

In renovating our new truck yard and operations site we reused existing materials where ever possible including refinishing weathered concrete floors and reusing existing office furniture. We used renewable materials such as recycled carpet tiles, natural linoleum floors and low VOC paints. CleanScapes installed new waste-reducing appliances such as AirBlade hand dryers which are 80% more energy efficient than standard dryers. In our new maintenance bays, we maximized natural light by coating floors and walls in a white, reflective covering allowing light to bounce up from below trucks as they are being worked on.

River Stewardship

The Duwamish River is an EPA Superfund Site and is adjacent to CleanScapes’ new headquarters and truck yard. CleanScapes is taking the opportunity to reverse a century old legacy of negligent industrial practices along this river by setting a new precedent of stewardship.

CleanScapes’ partners with People for Puget Sound to host and sponsor biannual Duwamish Alive! river stewardship work parties along the riverbank. Heavy industry along the shore reduced the original wetlands area to only 2% its original scope. At each Duwamish Alive! event, hundreds of volunteers make a difference by planting native species along the shore, eradicating invasive weeds, maintaining a community park, and building storm water treatment bioswales to prevent toxins from reaching the River. These efforts preserve and rebuild the natural wetland habitat for fish, birds and wildlife.

Water Conservation

The Environmental Coalition of South Seattle (ECOSS) worked closely with CleanScapes as we moved on to our new site to make sure our storm drains were labeled, liquids were properly stored away from the waterway and spill kits were available and well marked in the yard.
