New Rates for Solid Waste Services in 2012

Service and disposal fees

On January 1, 2012, the following rates will increase:

King County disposal fee From $95 to $109 per ton (14% increase)
King County Hazardous Waste Surcharge From $0.80 to $1.08 per month for residents
From $9.07 to $11.24 per month for commercial accounts

In March 2012:

  • CleanScapes commercial and residential service rates will increase approximately 4.3%, based on a formula of costs that is calculated annually.  Rates are effective March 1, 2012 through February 28, 2013.
  • Residents will also see a one-time charge that will pay for the increased cost that CleanScapes pays to dispose of curbside garbage during January and February, as a result of the increased King County disposal fees during those months.
  • With all the increases combined, customers will see average rates increase between 7.5% to 10%, depending on container size and/or amount of garbage generated.

The new CleanScapes service rates are available in your 2012/2013 User Guide, and they will be posted on our website in March. To learn more about the new rates, please visit the following links:

  Current 2012
Minimum fee (per trip) $17.25 $20.00
Per ton fee (includes all fees) $102.05 $117.82

These charges include the basic fee, plus state tax and the King County hazardous waste surcharge. More information on transfer station fees can be found on the King County website here.
