• Going Green for Summer!
School’s out and summer is here! While you are making plans to enjoy the season, consider all of the ways you can make a positive impact on the environment.

Travel. If you are planning a road trip, make the most of your miles and fuel economy by checking your tire pressure, scheduling a summer tune-up and planning the most efficient routes.
When making reservations, look for hotels with green certifications from AAA, GreenSeal and Sustainable Travel International.
When you get to your destination, consider using the local transit systems – you will save money and see much more of the city you are visiting.
Don’t forget your travel mug and reusable water bottle. You recycle at home and at work, why not reduce and reuse on the road?

Green Remodeling. Whether you just bought your first home, or you have owned your house for many years, there may come a time when you will want to remodel. Lucky you! At your fingertips are a considerable variety of resources for green remodeling, including environmentally friendly products, high quality recycled materials, resource-saving fixtures and appliances, as well as places to recycle your construction, demolition, and land-clearing debris.
From the kitchen to the bathroom, to the backyard and beyond there are sustainable and resource-saving alternatives readily available that you can implement yourself or have installed for you.
In many cases, environmental choices come with financial incentives, including tax credits, coupons and rebates.

Greener Parties, Picnics & Potlucks. Buying from local producers decreases the greenhouse gas emissions that result from the long-distance transport of food. Seasonal farmers markets are open and stocked with everything you will need for the grill and picnic table.
Before stocking up on single-use plates and cups, save money by using reusable and washable plates, cups, silverware, napkins, table clothes and serving dishes.
No recycling bins at the park or campground? Bring a waterproof bag or cardboard box to store and pack-out recyclables. You could even pack-out your leftover food using sealable to-go containers to bring back and compost at home.
The Clear Alleys Program
The Clear Alleys Program (CAP) replaces dumpsters with a daily bag pickup service, creating cleaner, safer alleys and making room for the public. All Belltown, Downtown and Pioneer Square garbage customers must keep public right-of-ways clear of dumpsters. Service is also available for parts of Capitol Hill.
