E-Waste
Electronic waste, or E-Waste, includes computers, monitors, and televisions. These products contain toxic chemicals that, if not disposed of correctly, cause environmental contamination and serious health impacts.
Responsible Purchasing: The Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool will help you find desktops and laptops that are manufactured environmentally responsibly and have a long user life.
Safe Disposal: The resources below will help you dispose of E-Waste safely. • Residents of the state of Washington can call 1-800 RECYCLE or visit the E-Cycle Washington website for E-Waste Disposal Information. • The Take It Back Network provides information on how to dispose of hazardous waste materials, including E-Waste.
Cell Phones: Over 125 million cell phones are discarded each year, resulting in over 65,000 tons of waste! • Collective Good takes donated cell phones, refurbishes them, and provides affordable wireless service throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. • The Charitable Recycling program donates used cell phones to charitable organizations. • Interested in buying a used and refurbished cell phone? ReCellular recycles and resells used cell phones and accessories.
