Two Shoreline Schools Win 2014 Waste Reduction Rewards

In the 2014 Waste Reduction Rewards Competition, an annual competition, Recology CleanScapes recognized two Shoreline schools for their considerable efforts in waste reduction. Schools become eligible for this award after completing Level 1 of the King County Green Schools Program. Parkwood and Syre Elementary Schools won the 2014 Waste Reduction Rewards and each were awarded $5,000 at the November City Council meeting in celebration of America Recycles Day. Parkwood Elementary increased its recycling rate from 23 to 35 percent in the 2013-2014 school year and Syre Elementary has increased its recycling rate to 53 percent since its level of 21 percent in 2011. Each school may use the award in whichever way they choose, however Recology CleanScapes encourages the schools to use the money to achieve Level Two of the Green Schools Program.
