Teamsters Local 174 ratifies new contract with Recology CleanScapes

Teamsters Local 174 ratifies new contract with Recology CleanScapes

Five year agreement ensures continued collection of recycling and garbage

SEATTLE, WA – On Saturday December 5, members of Teamsters Local 174 ratified a five year agreement with recycling and solid waste company, Recology CleanScapes.  The agreement ensures there will be continued service provided for the nine communities served by Recology CleanScapes for the next five years.  The agreement puts drivers, recycling center workers and StreetScapes workers all under one contract.

“This agreement represents the interests of over 200 workers in the region and ensures the protection of these family wage jobs,” said Rick Hicks, Secretary Treasurer of Teamsters Local 174.  “Recology CleanScapes negotiated another industry leading contract that guarantees our members will continue to set the economic standard in our communities.”

The new agreement between Teamsters Local 174 and Recology CleanScapes will, for the first time, include workers at Recology CleanScapes new recycling facility in South Seattle.  Previously, all recycling and garbage truck drivers, as well as the company’s janitorial and exterior maintenance service, or StreetScapes, were represented by the Teamsters.

“Recology CleanScapes values our partnership with our employee-owners as well as the Teamsters,” said Derek Ruckman, Vice President and Group Manager for Recology.  “The employee-owners of Recology CleanScapes provide an essential public service to the communities where we operate and we are proud to continue to support their efforts.”

The new agreement, which was negotiated several months prior to the expiration of the current agreement, was approved by over 94% of the membership.  The new agreement will bring labor stability to Recology CleanScapes and the communities it serves through March 31, 2021.
