Maple Valley, WA – This year marks the 13th annual Maple Valley Hooked on Fishing Derby on April 24-25 and employee owners from Recology CleanScapes were out in the community on Saturday doing their part to get ready. Eleven volunteers from the company dispatched to some areas most affected by litter and picked up as much as they could on Saturday morning.
“We know that the Hooked on Derby event attracts a big crowd and we wanted to do our part to make Maple Valley is looking as nice as possible for everyone headed to this great event,” said Recology CleanScapes spokesperson Kevin Kelly. “Luckily the sun came out for us Saturday morning and we were able to clean up a good portion of litter. Many of the items we picked up are actually recyclable, like coffee cups and plastic bags.”
The Recology CleanScapes team ended up filling 25 bags of litter from areas around Witte Road and Four Corners. That amount is equivalent to the typical dumpster size of a commercial business.
The Hooked on Fishing Derby at Lake Wilderness park begins with camping set-up at 3pm on Friday and is a great event for families. This decades old event offers a great chance to spend time with family and connect with friends and neighbors from around Maple Valley.
