Issaquah, WA – On Saturday, May 11th CleanScapes, in partnership with the City of Issaquah, Bike Works and Compass Outdoor Adventures, will host a Kids Bike Rodeo at their Gilman Village retail store and customer service center.
The event, held during National Bike to Work Month, provides children with an opportunity to learn about bike safety and maintenance. The City of Issaquah Police Department is providing a limited number of youth bike helmets and staff from Bike Works and Compass Outdoor Adventure will be on hand to demonstrate bike handling and how to fix flat tires. The Kids Bike Rodeo will also include a treasure hunt by bike.
“The CleanScapes’ Bike Rodeo is a great way to get children engaged on the benefits of bicycling,” said Mary Joe de Beck, from the City of Issaquah Office of Sustainability team. “The City of Issaquah has a goal to promote ‘active transportation’ in our City and we are pleased to be providing our youth with this unique opportunity on May 11th to become more involved in bicycling.”
CleanScapes will be collecting used bikes for donation at the event. Since 2010 CleanScapes has saved more than 5,000 bicycles from landfills. CleanScapes partners with Bike Works, a local non-profit that refurbishes bikes to be sold or donated locally and internationally. Everyone donating a used bicycle will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a variety of prizes.
“The Kids Bike Rodeo is a great opportunity to promote bike safety and education,” said Brenda DeVore, CleanScapes Retail Store Manager. “By providing the community with an opportunity to donate used bikes, we are able to reuse resources that will promote healthy lifestyles for kids in the community.”
The Kids Bike Rodeo will be held at CleanScapes retail store in Gilman Village located at 317 NW Gilman Blvd, #22 from 11am – 2pm. More information can be found by visiting cleanscapes.com.
