Burien, WA – Beginning June 1, 2014, Burien residents will see new bright green trucks collecting their garbage, recycling and compost/yard waste. On Monday, September 16 the Burien City Council voted to enter into a contract with CleanScapes for these services for the next seven years.
Under the new contract, Burien residents in businesses will see lower rates on their monthly bills and expanded services like a seven day per week call center and more curbside collection options like plastics, motor oil, bottled kitchen fat/oil/grease, scrap metal, household batteries, fluorescent tubes, and bulky items. CleanScapes will use trucks that are lighter and will lead to less wear and tear on city streets. Additionally, CleanScapes will be adding a retail store and customer service center in Burien modeled after their unique recycling-focused retail store in Issaquah.
“We are excited to be partnering with CleanScapes to be the City of Burien’s next garbage and recycling hauler,” said Burien Mayor Brian Bennett. “The new contract provides cost-savings to residents and businesses at a time when everyone could use more money. We are also pleased to see expanded service options for our City in this contract.”
CleanScapes will begin working with the City on a transition plan that will include extensive outreach to the community. CleanScapes will be visiting with multifamily and commercial customers in Burien to ensure they are aware of the new services being offered. Residents will receive multiple pieces of information from CleanScapes outlining their new service options and lower rates in the coming months.
