Service in Des Moines and Shoreline on Schedule

SEATTLE, WA – (January 16, 2012) – CleanScapes provides garbage and recycling service to the residents and businesses of the Cities of Des Moines and Shoreline. As of January 16, 2012 all routes and service are running as normally scheduled. While CleanScapes operations in both communities are expected to operate normally, there may be some limited weather related service disruptions during the course of the day for customers with limited access (e.g. steep slopes or narrow street/alley access).

Customers should place their carts (garbage, recycle, food scraps/yard debris) in the usual collection location today.

$50,000 Neighborhood Waste Reduction Projects Unveiled

Ribbon Cutting, Walking Tour and Community Celebration in Madrona

On Saturday December 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Councilmember Mike O’Brien will unveil nine bronze sidewalk rings installed in the sidewalk along 34th Avenue in the Madrona business district. Councilmember O’Brien will be joined by representatives from the Madrona Community Council, Business Owners of Madrona, Seattle Public Utilities, CleanScapes, KPG and Lease Crutcher Lewis. A guided walking tour of the nine bronze rings will follow the ribbon cutting ceremony and kickoff the Very Merry in Madrona holiday festival.

CleanScapes Announces Seattle’s 2011 Waste Reduction Competition Winner

SEATTLE, WA – (October 28, 2011) – Today CleanScapes announced that the Roosevelt, Ravenna, Bryant and Wedgwood neighborhoods won the 2011 Seattle Neighborhood Waste Reduction Rewards competition. The “Tuesday North” neighborhoods will receive a $50,000 project selected by the community and funded by CleanScapes.

Between September 1, 2010 and August 31, 2011 the residents of these neighborhoods decreased their waste by 400 tons, a 4.7% improvement over the same period the previous year. The runner up was CleanScapes’ “Tuesday South” collection area (Queen Anne and Magnolia) with a reduction of 325 tons.

Every year CleanScapes challenges neighborhoods in the municipalities it serves to reduce their waste footprint in this annual competition. Working together, Seattle neighborhoods in CleanScapes service area lost a total of 1,226 tons in 2011 – an impressive waste reduction accomplishment and a huge step toward the City of Seattle’s 2020 Carbon Neutrality and Zero Waste goals.

CleanScapes Announces Merger with Recycling Industry Leader Recology

~ New Partnership will fuel CleanScapes' NW Expansion Plans~


SEATTLE, WA – (October 4, 2011) – CleanScapes, a privately-held company providing solid waste, recycling and yard waste hauling services in Seattle and suburban cities announced its intention, subject to regulatory approval, to merge with California based Recology.

“CleanScapes will retain its name, its management and its culture – especially our focus on recycling, waste reduction, innovation and customer service,” said CleanScapes President Chris Martin. “This move means we’ll be in a stronger position to accelerate an already aggressive expansion plan in the Pacific Northwest to better meet the needs of the community.”

CleanScapes Receives Silver and Bronze Excellence Awards

Bike Recycling and Waste Reduction Rewards Programs Honored

SEATTLE, WA – (August 24, 2011) –This week the Solid Waste Association of North America awarded CleanScapes both a Silver and Bronze Excellence Award at their National Conference in Nashville Tennessee.  The silver award was granted in recognition of CleanScapes bike recycling program and the bronze award was for CleanScapes Neighborhood Reduction Rewards programs. 

CleanScapes launched their bicycle recycling program in June of 2010 – placing the first collection station at Seattle’s North Transfer Station.  Since the inception of the program, collection stations have expanded to Seattle’s South Transfer Station and King County’s Shoreline Transfer Station, and CleanScapes and their partner Bike Works have recycled over 2,000 bikes.
