Grand Opening Saturday of NE Seattle Tool Library

A new tool lending library serving northeast Seattle is having its grand opening on Saturday.

"We will officially start lending tools at our Grand Opening on January 19, 2013. The building will open at 10 a.m. for new member registrations and meet-and-great, followed by the official speeches and ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. We’ll stay open until 2 p.m. for tool lending, plus “Taste of the Tool Library” demonstrations."

Check Out (Really) These Tools

Check out this great piece on the 2011 Seattle Neighborhood Waste Reduction Rewards project...

The shelves are filled with circular saws, power drills and more types of hammers than I ever knew existed. But this is no hardware store. I’m in North Ravenna at the city’s newest tool library, where members will be able to check out tools for free after it opens Jan. 19.

The grass-roots project led by Susan Gregory makes a lot of sense. Everyone may own a hammer, she said, but most of us don’t need to own expensive tools that we seldom use, such as a shop vacuum or a chain saw.

King County Joins the CleanScapes/Bike Works Partnership

Check out this awsome news about our growing bike recycling program...

Last year, CleanScapes started a partnership with Bike Works to save unwanted bikes from the dump. The garbage collection company instead began donating bikes they recovered from Seattle’s North and South Transfer Stations to Bike Works.

Now, King County has announced that it is joining the cause by collecting unwanted bikes and parts at the Shoreline Transfer Station and donating them to Bike Works, too.

Bike Works is such a magical organization. It even has the power to turn trash into freedom! (though, of course, it needs the help of volunteers like you to make it all happen).

Portland: Alberta Street installs first ‘functional art’ trash cans

Check out this article on the newly installed functional art trash cans we'll be servicing in Portland...

Artist Ivan McLean bolted into the sidewalk on the corner of Northeast 31st Avenue and Alberta Street on Thursday morning a trash can he designed and made from recycled signs.

The idea for the recycling-and-garbage receptacle, one of 19 to be installed along the busy commercial strip, came from a friend who was recycling commercial signs in Cannon Beach, McLean said.
