Fluorescent Tubes & CFL Bulbs

CleanScapes provides free collection of fluorescent tubes and bulbs (CFLs) for customers in Des Moines. Fluorescent lights contain small amounts of hazardous substances and must be recycled separately from all other recyclables. Please DO NOT put them inside your recycling cart.

Commercial, apartment and condominium customers must call to arrange collection. Service must be requested by the bill payer on record. Please DO NOT set fluorescent tubes and bulbs next to carts/containers.

Single-family residential customers, please follow these instructions to recycle fluorescent tubes and bulbs:

• Wrap tubes in several layers of newspaper, secure with tape

• Put bulbs in plastic bag tied closed (or Ziploc bag)

• Set bulbs on top of recycle cart (not inside)

• Lean well-wrapped tubes against your cart or put them on the ground beside your recycling cart. Tubes must be 4 ft long or less.
