Will I be receiving new carts/containers?

In October 2011, residential customers will receive the following new wheeled carts:

• Gray garbage cart

• Blue recycling cart

• Green food scraps & yard debris cart*
  *You will only receive this cart if you subscribe to food scraps & yard debris service.

Your new garbage cart will be the same size as your old cart. You will also receive a 96-gallon recycling cart. If you subscribe to food scraps & yard debris service, you will also receive a green 96-gallon cart. If you would like a different-sized cart, or would like to order food scraps & yard debris service, please call us at (206) 762-4900. You will not be charged any cart rental fees for your subscribed services. 

CleanScapes will deliver new carts and containers in October. The new carts each residential home will receive are compatible with automated collection trucks and allow for quick and efficient service. Customer owned containers such as round plastic or metal cans with a separate lid, cannot be used for regular weekly collection service.

If you own your own can, cart or container:

• Keep it and use it for extra yard debris or storage

• Give it away

• Mark it with “please dispose” and set at the curb on your collection day during November 2011.

The current solid waste contractor in Des Moines (Allied Waste) owns the wheeled plastic carts used by single-family homes and smaller apartments and businesses. Allied will be collecting all of their carts during the first two weeks of November. Please leave carts curbside for collection. They will not be removing any personal cans.  If your old residential carts have not been removed by November 11th, 2011, call Allied Waste at (206) 682-9735.

Commercial and Multifamily Customers

In preparation for new multifamily or commercial services, CleanScapes is swapping your Allied Waste containers with new garbage, recycling, and food scraps and yard debris containers beginning October 1, 2011 and continuing throughout the month of October. If you are a commercial customer, please call CleanScapes at (206) 762-4900 if your old garbage container(s) have not been removed by November 4th, 2011.

Please use your new containers as soon as you receive them. Your current service provider will continue to collect all garbage, recycling and food scraps & yard debris through the end of October.
