Clear Alleys Program (CAP)

Commercial customers downtown are helping Seattle return public throughways to their intended pedestrian and utilitarian uses. The Clear Alleys Program (CAP) replaces Downtown, Belltown and Pioneer Square dumpsters with a daily bag pickup service, creating cleaner, safer alleys. With CAP you pay by the bag, which means you only pay for what you throw away.

Dear Charlie,

What do I do with my household batteries?

Meet Charlie!

Charlie, the son of CleanScapes' founder, is here to answer all your questions about what to recycle and compost and how to responsibly get rid of scary things like computers or batteries. We know you have some questions.

Founded in 1997, CleanScapes developed and piloted the innovative Dumpster Free Alley program (DFA) to improve safety in the Pioneer Square district. CleanScapes DFA customers removed dumpsters from alleys, replacing them with our daily bag pickup service. Instead of overflowing dumpsters providing cover for criminal activity, Pioneer Square alleys were returned to their intended pedestrian and utilitarian uses. The pay by-the-bag system helped smart customers reduce waste and cut costs. The success of DFA inspired Seattle's new Clear Alleys Program.
